HOPE’87 and its partner Don Bosco started rebuilding the centre for street children “Lakou-Lakay” and the school “Marie Auxiliatrice” in 2010 after the earthquake in Haiti and dedicated their work to the education and care of 2,100 affected children. Besides the emphasis on the continuation of education, the project included one hot meal per day for each child. Suffering from the earthquake and disaster, more than 1,500 children reaped the benefits from psychosocial care and several arts and sports activities for coping with their trauma. The school’s surrounding walls were destroyed by the catastrophe of January 2010 and were rebuilt in May 2010 to restore protection of the school campus.
