On March 22nd we celebrate World Water Day to raise awareness about the water and sanitation crisis!

Through its work, HOPE’87 has helped to provide access to clean water for Batwa children in the mountains of Cibitoke, Burundi. Through our project “A Well for Mvumera”, a spring near the Mvumera School, which was founded in 2006 through a community initiative, was tapped and the clean drinking water was brought to the village by means of water pipes!

Previously, children and women had to walk an average of 6.5 km over steep mountain slopes to reach the nearest gushing water source and bring running water with jerry cans to the school and village for washing and drinking.

Through the project, the spring has been captured and piped directly to the school and village, providing access to sufficient and safe drinking water for Batwa children, which is also a contribution to achieving Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 6 “Ensure access to water and sanitation for all”.
