On October 15, International Day of Rural Women is celebrated around the world! It recognises the essential role and contribution of rural women, including indigenous women, in strengthening agricultural and rural development, improving food security and eradicating rural poverty.

In Senegal, HOPE’87 partnered with six other Austrian NGOs to implement the RECOUVRER project, which aims to strengthen the resilience of vulnerable people in West Africa to the COVID-19 pandemic.

For example, HOPE’87-Senegal developed activities to increase agricultural production to address the economic impact of the pandemic on producers by training farmers in new agricultural production techniques through the introduction of short-cycle seed varieties adapted to climate change. Women farmers were trained in processing agricultural products to improve nutrition for children ages 0-5 and pregnant women.
