Children in the Sahel - No Future without Education, Health & Employment

In 2010 HOPE’87 implemented a project situated in the heart of the extremely dry Sahel region, next to the boarders of Mali and Burkina Faso, two of the poorest countries in the world. These two western African countries share typical characteristics of least developed countries regarding their demographic structure as well as health and educational issues.

Earthquake in Chile

On Saturday 27th of February, shortly after the devastating earthquake in Haiti, it was now on Chile to become the site of a terrible natural disaster. An earthquake with the magnitude of 8.8 on the Richter scale - one of the strongest earthquakes ever recorded - and subsequent flood waves rolled over the country and left a scene of destruction.

Learn to Earn - computer training courses for marginalized youth with special needs

This project, which was successfully completed on the 31st of December 2010, achieved its objective of training 955 men and women with special needs (especially deaf and mute persons) in IT- knowledge. In doing so, the project responded to the high demand of IT-education in Pakistan’s society. The specific aim of this project was to improve the chances to further education and entering the job market for the youth of Lahore and especially for those marginalized young people with special needs.

Mission of HOPE'87 General Secretariat to Chisinau/Republic of Moldova

During their mission to the Republic of Moldova in February 2010 Secretary General Robert Ottitsch and Desk Officer Dr. Maisa Khalil met all relevant stakeholders concerning the project “HOPE for the children of Moldova”.

Education and capacity building of women in the fight against malnutrition

The aim of this project was to reinforce the capacity of four target groups of women in the region of Cascade (provinces Comoe and Leraba) in the rural sector to fight against malnutrition. The four target groups were women of childbearing age, pregnant women, nursing mothers and women with children under five. To reach these target groups, HOPE’87, with financial support from the City of Vienna, carried out trainings for women, which have contributed to reduce the level of malnutrition within the population of the target region.

Haiti: emergency support and reconstruction

In order to help the victims of the earthquake in Haiti, HOPE’87 cooperates with its long-term Austrian partner “Jugend Eine Welt- Don Bosco” ensuring a vital and efficient link with the Salesian fathers working in Haiti since 1936.
