Partner Organisation: SONNE International / YPSA Donor: Passauer Neue Presse This extremely isolated and remote project area in the mountains of the Chittagong Hill Tracts on the border to Myanmar (East-Bangladesch) is home to the Tibeto-Burmese minorities. Due to the absence of infrastructure, attending school was practically impossible. In cooperation with the local population 12 village schools were constructed out of bamboo and are now operational. More than 300 children regularly attend classes. In the evenings the schools are used to provide further education to adults. The project support includes local salaries (teachers and supervisors), school repairs, school clothing, teaching and learning materials as well as a sports and motivational programmes for students. The continuous teacher-training programme is of great significance for the quality of teaching. |
