What’s new on our poultry farm in Mali?

The United Teams - the strategic alliance of the YOU Foundation and HOPE’87 is thrilled about the great developments of the poultry farm project entitled “„Renforcement de Capacité et création de revenus pour les petits fermiers au Burkina Faso et au Mali“. This project was established in the village of Heremakono, right on the border of Mali and Burkina Faso, and focuses on capacity building and revenue creation for smallholder poultry farmers.

A pilot farm for poultry raising and egg production was established and several trainings on proper and efficient poultry farming were so far conducted by professional trainers for the interested farmers of the project region. And just a couple of days ago the first eggs were laid by the hens to the great joy of the staff!

At one of these trainings the president of the „Groupement d’Intérêt Économique Katanlgnan des Aviculteurs de Koloko“ , one of the local associations of poultry farmers, stressed the importance of these trainings and the knowhow transfer during his speech and expressed his gratitude to the donors as well as to the trainers of the courses.

Within these trainings the farmers are being familiarized with issues related to animal health and protection against diseases, the importance of high-quality poultry feed and its nutritional aspects and the right conditions for poultry rearing. On-the-job trainings at the farm enabled the young poultry breeders to see the difference of a high quality and hygienic chicken farming, to ask questions more easily and to adapt the lessons learnt to their own farming activities back home. Furthermore, the chicken farmers got an idea of the equipment that Big Dutchman generously donated to this project.

HOPE’87 would like to express its gratitude to Big Dutchman for the donation, that supports the farm on a daily basis as well as to thank the YOU Foundation – Education for Children in Need for their long-standing cooperation.
