A warm welcome to the newly appointed Austrian Ambassador to Dakar

Last week H.E. Ambassador Dr Caroline Gudenus paid a visit to the HOPE'87 projects in Medina Chérif and Mampatim in the Region de Kolda in the deep South of Senegal. Accompanied by HOPE'87 Secretary General Robert Ottitsch, Ambassador Gudenus handed over symbolically the ignition key of a road ambulance to the Governor of the Département Kolda. The ambulance is intended to guarantee a safe evacuation of patients from the Poste de Santé de Médina Chérif to the regional hospital in the district capital Kolda, about 80 km away.

Since its inception, the Poste de Santé of Médina Cherif, financed by the German donor "FAI/ Axtmann Group of Companies" and supported by the Foundation Education for Children in Need of UNESCO Special Ambassador Dr Ute Ohoven, plays a vital role in strengthening the health of a population of about 15.000 people by providing emergency care, ante and post natal care, maternity services, health information and vaccination campaigns.

Ambassador Gudenus also had a closer look at the sustainability of actions by visiting the very first ever larger development project of HOPE'87.  23 years after implementation of  the  drinking water project  in Sare Pathé Bouya, the  drilled well,  the motor pump and the power generator continue to supply some 1.500 villagers with drinking water.

The population of Médina Chérif as well as of Kossanké, where the newly renovated Case de Santé, part of an Austrian Development Agency co-financed HOPE'87 project, was inaugurated the same day, provided a warm welcome to the Austrian ambassador!
