The Secretary General's mission to Senegal

For the last couple of weeks Mr Robert Ottitsch, Secretary General of HOPE'87, was on mission in Senegal with the Vice President of the YOU Foundation - Education for Children in Need, Ms Claudia Jerger, and the UNESCO Special Ambassador and President of the YOU Foundation, Dr Ute H. Ohoven. As part of the delegation of the “United Teams- the strategic alliance of the YOU Foundation and HOPE’87”, they had the opportunity to assist at an extraordinary meeting with H.E. Macky Sall, the President of the Republic of Senegal. The President was particularly interested in receiving news from the Vice President of the YOU Foundation, Ms Claudia Jerger, about the advancement of the project “Baraka- transformation of a slum into a modern living quarter”.

The United Teams also went on a monitoring visit to the successful project “Empowerment of the fish mongers of Yoff” where 100 women have organised themselves in two economic interest groups, have participated in trainings in simple bookkeeping, opened their own bank accounts, got equipped, organised bulk buying of fish at the sea shore and- by now- have tripled their income!

Furthermore, the Secretary General, Mr Robert Ottitsch, and the UNESCO Special Ambassador and President of the YOU Foundation, Dr Ute H. Ohoven visited another successful project by the “United Teams- the strategic alliance of the YOU Foundation and HOPE’87”: "La Maternelle PA24” - a little paradise for the small ones - a kindergarten in Parcelles Assainies, a popular district of Dakar, catering to the needs of poor income households... quality early childhood care is offered by a team of dedicated female teachers for 120 children!
