OFID and IWA launch the new Wastewater Report 2018

On 27th of February the HOPE’87 Secretary General was kindly invited by OFID- the OPEC Fund for International Development- to assist at a conference and the launch of the Wastewater Report 2018, organised at the Headquarters of OFID in Vienna.

OFID Director General, Mr. Suleiman Jasir Al-Herbish, and the Executive Director of the International Water Association (IWA), Prof. Kala Vairavamoorthy, presided the international conference „The Reuse Opportunity: Cities seizing the reuse opportunity in a circular economy“, focused on the global problem of wastewater and the fact that today around 80% of all wastewater is discharged into the world’s waterways daily, creating health, environmental and climate-related hazards.

The report presented highlights in a very clear way how cities can, and are, leading the change required to achieve the Sustainable Development Goal 6.3, which commits governments to halving the proportion of untreated wastewater and substantially increasing recycling and safe reuse by 2030.

As a result of the conference the HOPE’87 Secretary General informed the worldwide HOPE’87 Network about this highly interesting, precise and groundbreaking report and the numerous projects on water and wastewater financed so far by OFID.
