Obituary

In memoriam...

It is with great sadness that we have been informed shortly before Christmas about the sad passing away of our dear Uta Meran, retired HOPE’87-Kenya Branch Office Manager.
Uta was working in the 80ties and 90ties for many years and under many ambassadors at the Austrian Embassy in Nairobi and coordinated on an honorary basis and with a lot enthusiasm our Small Scale Projects budget line in Kenya as well as one of our first EC co-financed projects in Nshara, Tanzania.
In pre-colonial times Uta, of a very old Austrian aristocratic family, came to East Africa as a small girl. Her father worked in Tanzania and Uganda as a doctor and she inherited from him the respect and the love for Africa… and she chose to stay in Kenya for nearly her whole life… as she spoke “the old” Swahili like a local and because of her endless care for her African brothers and sisters, she was called “Mama Uta”…
In the late 90ties Uta had to return to Austria because of a pulmonary disease, but she always pinned her hope on her return to “her” beloved Africa one day …

Let us pray to the Almighty that Uta may rest in Peace and that her soul may travel over Africa from time to time!

We shall not forget her!
