News on our poultry farm

The project “Capacity building and incoming generation for small poultry farmers in Burkina Faso and Mali” by the UNITED TEAMS - the strategic alliance of the YOU Foundation and HOPE’87 continues to develop and expand.

In support of local Malian as well as Burkinabé farmers, both “Groupements d’Interet Economique (GIE)” or Economic Interest Groups offer educational workshops to farmers on a regular basis, whereby - of course - the necessary hygiene measures for COVID-19 are followed. Moreover, a container full of stock was established on the premises of the poultry farm in the village of Heremakono. This farmer’s shop provides necessary supplies for the healthy breeding of poultry as well as supplementary feed for the chickens of high nutrition made from regional cereals.

The project thus places a special focus on bringing together theory and practice by engaging the farmers not only in practical monitoring programmes, but also by supporting them with useful farming material and other “hardware” needed for their success. The farmers are also being strengthened in their innovative ideas for improving and expanding their poultry farms through regular coaching and supervision by the project’s expert staff.

Especially in such uncertain times as those of the pandemic, it is all the more necessary to focus on sustainable agriculture and to enable a self-sustaining income for farmers. Which is exactly what the project’s objective aims for by contributing to the SDG 2: to end hunger, achieve food security and improved nutrition and promote sustainable agriculture in Burkina Faso and Mali.
