International Day of Peace

On September 21st we celebrated the International Day of Peace.

Each year, the International Day of Peace is observed around the world in order to strengthening the ideals of peace. This year, the theme for the International Day of Peace is “Recovering better for an equitable and sustainable world”.

As we heal from the COVID-19 pandemic, we must find ways to help everyone to build resilience, to transform our world into one that is more equal, more just, inclusive, sustainable and healthier and to make peace with one another.

To achieve that, sports can be an important means in order to contribute to a peaceful environment and can be a driving force to learn in a playful way on how to compete within fair rules in the set-up of a sports team.

With its project “Base Brazil - Living a Dream” HOPE’87 pursues the goal of educating young girls and boys in football schools of socially depressed areas of Brazil, also known as Favelas. The programme offers perspectives to the youth by teaching them to develop their skills and their social competences in a safe environment.

In this way, these young participants get offered alternatives to becoming affiliated with gangs and therefore being exposed to violence and crime. By teaching the youth how to control emotions and develop communication skills as well as conflict management strategies, the programme aims to inspire, motivate and engage young people to solve conflicts in a meaningful and peaceful way globally.
