HOPE’87 assists at the UNESCO General Conference in Paris

The Secretary General of HOPE’87, Robert Ottitsch, represented the organisation, which enjoys the status “In Operational Relationship with UNESCO” at the General Conference of UNESCO, 6th to 23rd of October, 2009. HOPE’87 cooperates since 1991 with UNESCO and especially with the Sector of Social and Human Sciences (SHS). Mr Ottitsch was also nominated by the Austrian Ministry of Foreign Affaires as expert to the official Austrian Delegation to the UNESCO General Conference.
The General Conference elected Ms Irina Bokova as Director General of UNESCO. She will be the first women to head this UN organisation. "I shall be guided in my work by my concept of a new humanism for the 21st century,” said Ms Bokova after her election by the 35th Session of the General Conference of UNESCO on 15 October. Apart from supporting a draft resolution prepared by Austria calling for youth participation on all decision taking levels of UNESCO, the Secretary General of HOPE’87 also participated in the debates in the Education Commission as well as met with the Director of the Division of Human Rights, Human Security and Philosophy at SHS, Ms Angela Melo.
