In late August 2017, a mass influx of Rohingya refugees arrived from the Rakhine State of Myanmar into Cox’s Bazar in Bangladesh. About 1.5 million refugees are currently living in the Ukhiya and Teknaf upazilas in Cox’s Bazar, a district bordering Myanmar where the main border crossing points are located.
From 4th of November to 11th of November Robert Ottitsch, SG of HOPE’87 and Ms Claudia Jerger, Vice President of the YOU Foundation-Education for Children in Need, accompanied by HOPE’87-Bangladesh Country Director, Mr Rezaul Karim, carried out an evaluation mission to Dhaka, Saidpur, Tangail and Cox’s Bazar.

Sitting shyly and quietly, it takes time for Tajmina to warm up and open up about her experience in the previous school she was studying in. For children like Tajmina, there are little opportunities in small rural villages in Pakistan to gain the experience of a formal schooling system.
